বিনোদন জগতে exclusive — Suresh Triveni on Going Completely Unhinged With Madhuri Dixit in Maa Behan and More নিয়ে এখন বেশ আলোচনা। সিনেমাওয়ালায় আমরা খবরটা নিজস্ব ভাষায় সাজিয়ে তুলেছি।

Suresh Triveni has quietly carved out a space for himself as one of Hindi cinema’s most distinctive storytellers।

Whether it’s the warmth of Tumhari Sulu, the moral complexities of Jalsa or the wicked satire of Maa Behen, his films are united by an affection for imperfect, deeply human characters and an instinct for finding the extraordinary in the everyday।

As he reflects on the long journey of Maa Behen, Triveni also opens up about his creative process, collaborating with actors, writing layered women, balancing instinct with data and the kinds of stories he still dreams of telling।

Excerpts from an engaging chat…After Tumhari Sulu and Jalsa, what drew you towards a dark comedy like Maa Behen? After Tumhari Sulu, I wanted to make another comedy with flawed women at its centre।

Sulu was an ordinary woman with extraordinary ambitions।

She was relatable, warm and very much the woman next door।

With Maa Behen,I wanted to tell the story of women society considers flawed।

It became a wicked comedy about a dysfunctional family, a mother and her two daughters।

The very first thing I wrote was the phone call where Rekha tells her daughters there’s a dead body in the house।

I also get bored with one genre very quickly, so I wanted to try something completely different. You’ve often taken your time with your films।

Was this one especially difficult to crack?I began writing it in 2018।

I got halfway through before hitting a writer’s block।

My producer, Vikram Malhotra, was keen to get the film moving, but I was completely stuck. How do you know when it's time to let someone else into your writing process?During COVID, I met Pooja Tolani virtually after reading a script of hers that I really admired।

I didn't want to direct that script, but I loved her writing style।

Eventually, I asked her to read Maa Behen।

It already had that title, and she really liked it।

It took me a while to let go of the script, but once I did, she completely rewrote it।

She gave it a fresh spin that I instantly connected with. What kept the film on the back burner after that?By then, I had committed to Jalsa।
